The Next Chapter

Our lives are made of many chapters: Elementary School, Missions, Undergraduate, Graduate School, Marriage, First Child, etc. Often, we don't want the chapters to end, because if they do, we will no longer be in a place of comfort. Don't misunderstand me, comfort is not a bad thing in and of itself. However, when our comfort brings us to a sense of security, where our God is no longer central in our lives, often He adds a new chapter.

Why some chapters are dramatic rips and others sweetly glide into each other, we won't discover for awhile after the fact. But each chapter is necessary to become who we are meant to become. One of my favorite poems in the world reads:

My Life is but a weaving
between my Lord and me;
I cannot choose the colors
He worketh steadily.

Oft times He weaveth sorrow
And I, in foolish pride,
Forget He sees the upper,
And I the under side.

Not til the loom is silent
And the shuttles cease to fly,
Shall God unroll the canvas
And explain the reason why.

The dark threads are as needful
In the Weaver's skillful hand,
As the threads of gold and silver
In the pattern He has planned.

He knows, He loves, He cares,
Nothing this truth can dim.
He gives His very best to those
Who leave the choice with Him.

Your life is in the hand of the great designer. He knows what you need to become the glorious being you are meant to become. Never fear the next chapter, just move forth in faith, even and especially when you feel like this:

Go forth with faith! God will design your life to prepare for the divine.
